Eliminating ignorance eliminates all of the afflictions

Just as the tactile sense [pervades] the body, Ignorance is present in them all. By overcoming ignorance, one will also Overcome all disturbing emotions. ~Aryadeva~ The 400 verses on the Middle Way

When we speak of the physical aggregate, that term carries with it the inclusion of all of the various faculties: eyes, ears, nose, skin etc. The same is true when we speak of ignorance. This term carries within it all of the afflictive emotions: greed, hatred, arrogance, jealousy, etc. In eliminating that which is overarching –ignorance, we therefore eliminate all that is subsumed within.
